In an interview with China Finance on the responsibilities of the presidents and CEOs of commercial banks, Brian Ranson, managing director, Credit Strategy Group at Moody's KMV, told reporters that the fundamental task for these senior managers should be to control risk, not avoid it. Ranson believes that in order to make the "right" decision in a credit risk management situation, a decision maker needs to consider all the risk factors, including financial data. In order to obtain this data, an effective tool that can gather information and provide analysis is vital. "It is like flying an airplane. All pilots use computers to help them control the flight and their expertise is complimented by the computer in times of emergency … It is the same for credit managers in commercial banks, they need to rely on credit management tools to help them."
